Yellow Tent

Autumn leaves wander aimlessly through the breeze

They’ll tell you stories of the trees, if you bother to listen

Hear them pass, hear them humm

Past the city streets they run

Past the children

Past the swings

Beyond the buildings–

To where the river sings

Listen, listen, watch them glow

Green, red, orange, yellow

They’ll bring you something–

Something familiar, but far away

You’ve seen it before

Sometime last May

You were lying in your yellow tent

You met the moon, and she was beautiful

And those autumn leaves made you cry

Because there, you knew you were alive
